McDonald’s played a vital role in the inception of the first Ronald McDonald House, which opened in Philadelphia in October, 1974. The first Ronald McDonald House of Detroit opened in 1979, as the seventh House in the country. Since then we have grown to include a new, 26 bedroom House and a Family Room within the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

The Southeastern Michigan McDonald’s Operators Association co-op (SEMMOA) is a significant funder and supporter of programs, contributing 10 – 15% towards our annual budget through local fundraising efforts. Alongside SEMMOA, McDonald’s corporate offices and the McDonald’s supplier network also provide invaluable support.

• Nearly $400,000 is collected annually through donation boxes at area McDonald’s restaurants in Southeastern Michigan to support our programs.

• Other restaurant initiatives include: One penny from every Happy Meal sold locally; Shamrock Shake sales; and the Ronald McDonald House Detroit National Fundraiser (in November).

Although the McDonald’s system is our largest corporate partner, no one company funds our programs entirely. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, we rely on the support of the entire community and greatly value all donations, whether it’s through time, talent or treasure.
